Author’s note: I wasn’t necessarily intending on writing today, but found myself awake in the middle of the night with a burst of thoughts, somewhat regarding the outbreak of fire in California. In the following piece, I’ve done my best to organize these thoughts, and contextualize them with my own experiences with fire here in the Midwest, as a gift for my supporting subscribers, before they all faded into my standard mish-mash of thoughts. I have to admit some ignorance regarding the native ecosystems and natural fire regimens of Los Angeles County, and would appreciate being directed to some good sources for my continued understanding.
I’ve got a big, fun, interesting (to me at least) piece in the works on tree sugar for later this week for all of my readers, who I obviously appreciate, but thought it best to offer this one to those of y’all supporting my work at a committed level. This year will hopefully be a big one for growing and advancing my work as a writer, and your continued financial support will be key in allowing me freedom of time –along with some key items– to dive deeper into the complex intersection of ecology, agriculture, climate, history and folklore. Thanks for giving me a chance!
