Can I ask why you don’t let them roost in trees or plant trees for them to use in the long term? I’m assuming raptor pressure, or maybe the mammal predators can climb them? Just curious, thanks. Your writing is very poetic!
Cimbri, we do this to a degree, and it's something I'll be writing about in detail as part of a silvopasture series this year! Predation is certainly one consideration, but largely, we need them to stay tame enough to move with our trailer, and eventually catch come harvest season. That said, we have been planting many trees into existing pasture, and also running the turkeys under pin oaks for the acorns in the fall... You've certainly keyed into the complexity of trying to work with and mimic natural ecosystems with agriculture... Stay tuned!
